Fun Weekend

We had quite the week. To start with Michelle dyed her hair blonde.

On Thursday after work Michelle and PJ (our best friend here) went to a Korean Spa. It consists of many different themed rooms. There is a Salt rock room, an ice room, a hot room, ect... It also has saunas and hot tubs. So you pay for entry and can go from room to room as long as you want. They also provide these prison like clothes to wear.

On Saturday after work all of the younger teachers went out to watch an English Premier League soccer game. Park Ji Sung is the best Korean soccer player in the world and he plays for Manchester United so every one here are huge Man U fans. It was a huge match with Chelsea for first place. It was a ton of fun.

This Sunday was one of our busiest days yet. For Easter we thought that since we were in Korea why not go to the biggest church in the world. So we took the train into Seoul and went to Yoido Full Gospel Church. It was amazing. They had headphones at our seats so we could listen to the sermon translated into English. It was really a cool experience. Yoido Full Gospel Church has 7 services every Sunday that they fill their 12,000 seat auditorium. They also have several satellite churches. According to Wikipedia they have 830,000 members. So we had quite the Easter experience.

Yoido Full Gospel Church is right off of Yoido River Park so after the service we decided to have a little fun. The park is beautiful; it runs along the south end of the Han-gang river. The main downtown area of Seoul is on the north side so this is a great place to see the city. To fully embrace the experience we rented a tandem bike and rode along the river. (by the way Korean tandem bikes were not made for two people as tall as Michelle and I. Pretty much the person in the back couldn't peddle because their knees hit the person in the front)

We finished our Sunday by coming back to Suji (The neighborhood in Yongin we live in) to meet up with PJ and Hey-San. (One of the other teachers) We played a little pool then when to what PJ called, "an old school Korean place." We had these amazing pancake things that PJ called Korean Pizza's that had oysters, mushrooms, fish, or pumpkin in them. To wash it down we enjoyed a traditional Korean drink called Makkalli. (Which is made from rice but tastes almost lemon limey) The coolest part of Makkalli is you drink it from these banged up gold bowls.
That was our crazy fun week.

  1. I enjoy your stories! I wish they were more frequent!

My first thought when reading this was that Michelle must be a hit as a tall blonde in an Asian country. My short blonde cousin would get stopped in China by people asking to get their pictures taken with her!

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us!!!
