Myeong-Dong and Insa-Dong

Michelle and I took this last weekend to go to a new part of Seoul. We went to Myeong-Dong and Insa-Dong. Myeong-Dong is where all of the upscale shops are, think Michigan Ave meets a flea market. All the shops are name brand places like Channel or Prada but they are all packed together like a fleamarket.(The first picture is one of the streets in Myeong-Dong.) We then went to Insa-Dong which is more of a touristy place where they have a lot of Korean art, pottery and other things that would look traditional and authentic to tourists. The second picture is of a Starbucks in Insa-dong which we thought was funny because everywhere else Starbucks writes its name in English, we think it was just for the tourists in Insa-Dong. The third picture is a man-made river that you walk across to get to Insa-Dong, which is actually a lot cooler than it looks in this picture. The next picture is of a group that was doing some Korean singing and dancing in Insa-Dong, which was pretty awesome. The last picture is of the outside of our school, it is the top floor where it says "YES". We have been teaching for just over a week now and it is really nice. The students are well behaved and as long as we follow along in the book it is pretty simple. We will do a more in depth post soon on what teaching and the school actually are like.

  1. Neat photos of your travels to other sections of Seoul this past weekend. Take away the Korean language on the signs it looks like a big U.S. city with much shopping and dense population.

Walking across the stones in the man made river looks cool. I'd expect the water is pretty cold this time of year.

I'm glad school started well for both of you. How's learning the Korean language going for you guys??

  2. Wonderful pictures. Love seeing the school inside and out. Uncle Mark will be so proud of your Starbucks picture. I can just imagine getting all three boys across that river when you guys were little. Somehow I think Michelle and Brian might have made that challenging as well. Love to you, Mom
